Who are the knights of the Catholic Church?
Knights of the Catholic Church are just ordinary practicing Catholics who strive to be saints through the practicing of faith, hope and charity.
Types of knighthood:
There are two types of knighthood recognized by the Catholic Church, namely:
1. Papal knight conferred by the pope, and
2. Organizational knights whose knighthoods are conferred by fraternal organizations.
In Nigeria, we have two knighthoods approved by the catholic bishops of Nigeria viz;
1. Knight of st Mulumba which is the first organizational knighthood in Nigeria. It was founded in 1953 by a holy priest, late rev. fr. Abraham Ojeifua, with other 23 very credible Catholics. The knighthood was fashioned in the order of knight of st. Columbus of the United states of America.
2. Knight of st. john international was founded in Nigeria in the year 1976 by late Col.Kevin .N. Ejiogu with membership of 24 founding fathers with the approval of late. Most Rev.Dr. G.M.P Okoye the ten bishop of Enugu diocese.
Knight of st. Mulumba is structured in line with the catholic ecclesiastical provincial order which are nine in number namely:
1. Abuja ecclesiastical province
2. Kaduna ecclesiastical province
3. Lagos ecclesiastical province
4. Benin ecclesiastical province
5. Ibadan ecclesiastical province
6. Jos ecclesiastical province
7. Onitsha ecclesiastical province
8. Owerri ecclesiastical province
9. Calabar ecclesiastical province
Each ecclesiastical province is being governed by an ArchBishop’
Metropolitan grand knights are in charge of the ecclesiastical provinces making it 9 metropolitan grand knights.
Out of this 9 Nimo has produced 4 metropolitan grand knights namely:

3. Sir. Dr. Charles Mbelede – KSM – Lagos ecclesiastical province MGK
4. Late Sir Greg Mgbajiaka – KSM- Owerri Ecclesiastical province MGK
Our women too are not silent either; the following women of Nimo extraction also gave good account of themselves in the persons of:
1. Noble lady. Chinwe mgbajiaka- recently elected The supreme subordinate auxiliary president Nigeria
2. Lady Dr. Ify mbelede – president LSM – Lagos metropolitan council
3. Lady Uketui- president LsSM – Onitsha metropolitan council
However, it is important to note that out of the four MGKS (Metropolitan Grand Knights) , Egbengwu Produced three (3) and one of them, sir Dr. Charles Mbelede served as deputy supreme knight and now the substantive SK ( Supreme Knight) the number one in Nigeria.
In the same vein, nimo has 7 papal knights the highest of its kind being conferred by the pope himself on the following nimo personalities.
Here, it is important to note that papal knight of st, Gregory is the highest in rank , yet Egbengwu did not lack with her own fair share as seen below:
1. Late sir. Alfred Ikeme – KSS (knight of St. Sylvester)
2. Late Sir. Vincent Igboka – KSS ( knigt of St, Sylvester)
3. Late sir. justice Uyanna – KSG ( knight of St, Gregory)

Under this category, our respected sir, J.C odike from Egbengwu nimo stood tall to be counted among living personalities that were conferred with the highest knighthood order rank by the pope, Egbengwu is Indeed the oversea. The challenge now is how are our youths prepared to continue flying the flag to ensure continuity, its left for us to give answer to it,
Egbengwu di uso Egbengwu nwelunu madu.
